5 MINUTES WITH JAMES KALUSCHKE

What is the most difficult thing you have ever accomplished and how did you manage it?
In 2014 I represented Australia at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. This is by far the most difficult thing I have ever accomplished. I set myself the goal of representing Australia four years earlier in 2010. To accomplish this I had to break it down into monthly goals and constantly evaluate how my performance was going, making any required adjustments to my training schedule. Being extremely flexible and open minded to different training techniques allowed me to persevere through a multitude of injuries months before selection trials

Who is your role model?
John Steffensen – I admire him for his dedication to the sport of Athletics and being a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, however what I truly admire about him most is the successful career he has made for himself without athletics. He has overcome a lot of negative publicity and now.

What three tips would you give to an inexperienced candidate looking for a job?
Apply to as many places as possible, even interview experience is invaluable. Don’t be afraid to brag about your accomplishments. Remember to dress appropriately for your interview.

What is the sentence that your mother or father always repeated to you?
You have to step outside your comfort zone in order to succeed.
